About me
Hi, I’m Julia, a 16-year-old skateboarder. I love the feeling of freedom, the challenge, and the unique spirit of the skateboarding scene. For me, skateboarding isn’t just a sport, it’s a lifestyle, a creative process, and a whole special world where I feel at home.
I started skating during the COVID lockdowns, and over the past few years, it has become a huge part of my life. I’ve been competing at events all over Europe and I’m working hard every day to keep progressing and growing as a skateboarder.
I’ve always been into sports. When I was younger, I was a regional bouldering champion, I’m a good skier, and I almost got accepted into the Royal Conservatory for classical ballet. But growing up in a house full of skateboards, longboards, and surfboards, it was pretty clear that skateboarding would become my thing.
Last year I faced a big challenge. I tore my ACL, had surgery, and spent months in recovery. It was a tough time, being away from my board, my friends, and competitions, but it also taught me a lot about patience and resilience. I’ve come back stronger, both physically and mentally.
I’m Dutch-Bulgarian, and growing up between these two countries and cultures has shaped who I am. As I begin competing in World Cup and Olympic qualifier events, I’m proud to represent Bulgaria on the international stage. I’ve been selected by the international skateboarding federation, World Skate, for the prestigious WSK Scholarships LA28 Cycle, chosen from over 350 applicants from 90 countries. This is not only a personal milestone but also a major step for Bulgaria, as I’ll be the first Bulgarian girl to compete at a high international level. I’m committed to supporting the growth of skateboarding in Bulgaria by helping develop better skateparks and creating more opportunities for young skaters.
I train and live mostly in Rotterdam, and spend every chance I get in Sofia – the two coolest cities in the world.
My dream is to become a professional skateboarder, fully enjoy this journey, and go for big goals, from the Olympics to SLS and X Games. I’m passionate about filmmaking and storytelling, and later I want to combine skateboarding with creating skate videos, producing my own projects, study, travel, meet people, and share my experience along the way.
